Chinese Religions, Values and Beliefs

According to prior research most of the Chinese population belong to either of two religions.
These religions are both very intertwined with family, honor and respect.

The first is Confucianism. The beliefs, teachings and relationships are briefly explained here: < http://www.religioustolerance.org/confuciu2.htm >
Confucianism Symbol

The Second is Taoism. The concepts, beliefs and practices can be viewed here: < http://www.religioustolerance.org/taoism2.htm >
Taoism Symbol (Mainly just the Yin Yang)

And this is a page I have found which conveys nicely the slight differences between Taoism and Confucianism.
This can be found here < http://www.mentalfloss.com/difference/taoism-vs-confucianism/ > and just elaborates a brief history of each and the main basis of each.

"Confucianism is a system of ethics, and Tao is a path of behavior. Also, Confucius was probably an actual person; Lao-tzu probably wasn't."

Advertorials... Sneaky little ads

Advertorial, a paid for advertisement done in and editorial style, in hopes to trick the mind of the reader into thinking that the info' being shared is fact and relevant.
Although some info' may in fact be factual and relevant not all of the information may be true and it is heavily biased towards the brand.

Here is a good example I have found from < http://www.infomarketingblog.com/images/hydroxatone_health_news.pdf > , note the very small "Advertisement" at the top, but besides that it seems completely legitimate.
Along my research I also found a kit to advertorials, it's quite interesting and explains both one page and two page advertorials set to a certain template: < http://aasa.files.cms-plus.com/pdfs/publications/advert_kit_06%20final.pdf > .

Thirdly I have found a breakdown of a good advertorial to provide more understanding of advertorials themselves through dissection and explanation: < http://www.newacupuncturepatients.com/Acupuncture-Marketing-Advertorial.html >

This original advertorial comes from < http://www.newacupuncturepatients.com/blog/acupuncture-marketing-in-newspapers-advertise-at-your-own-risk >.

Chinese Media Research

I have found a very interesting website, more importantly this specific URL : < http://www.cfr.org/china/media-censorship-china/p11515 > which explains some of the censorship laws which control media in China and how the journalists are still evading these laws even with the intensity of the tools in place to censor.

A specific point that was quite important to me is "In a February 2011 testimony before the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission, CFR's Economy notes how the Internet has increasingly become a means for Chinese citizens to ensure official accountability and rule of law. She also notes the growing importance of social network sites like Twitter as a political force inside China despite government restrictions on them." (Note that "CFR's Economy", Economy is the last name of "Elizabeth C. Economy").

This note is quite interesting as it may definitely be the penetration point for a campaign for rhino horn which seems like the government is trying to hide it from the people as it is truth which would cause panic and loss of control. If the Chinese do take what they read on the internet more serious than what their government feeds them then a campaign through Twitter or somehow highly recognized by the Chinese populace would be most effective as it would be taken as truth and more trustworthy than government lies.

This opens up a good option for advertising, as now we can use Twitter. We can go further and post as a fake reporter pretending to rub against the government to peak some people's interests and report "Against what the government want you to believe" the truth about rhino horns.

Rhino Poaching Stats 2011

As of the 6th of March a total of 54 rhinos had been killed, with thirty three of these in Kruger National Park. < http://www.rhinoconservation.org/2011/03/06/south-africa-discloses-grim-rhino-poaching-numbers-for-2011/#more-10187 >

In a matter of eight days another fifteen rhinos were massacred for their horns raising the total as of 14 March up to 71 rhinos killed for their horns in 2011.

Rhino Horn Know How

I have found an organisational website that explains clearly the facts vs. the beliefs of rhino horn.

Please take a look at this, it may seem like a lot of reading but in order to be able to have an opinion you must first learn and understand. < http://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/episodes/rhinoceros/rhino-horn-use-fact-vs-fiction/1178/ >

This video is also available for further understanding.

This video can be found here < http://www.rhinoconservation.org/2011/03/25/suspected-poacher-shot-dead-after-killing-rhino-in-kwazulu-natal-south-africa/#more-10529 > as well as on < http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxZJ1nN8nLc&feature=feedwll > and it simply explains that rhino horn is made of the same materials as hair and fingernails, but also contains some elements from what the rhino has eaten during it's lifetime.
"Medically, it's the same as actually chewing your nails."

Fortunately on the same page as the rhino horn video, you can see that in 2011 already there have 64 people arrested in relation to rhino horn crimes.
The following post will contain stats of 2011 rhinos so far.

A much Lighter Note on a Heavy Animal

Here's a little story to help lift the mood of this blog, as it does seem that the previous posts were kind of saddening and maddening, this story may lift the mood and perhaps inspire some hope in those who need it.

In a zoo in Nepali - Kathmandu, two Single-horned rhinos have been built a "Honeymoon Suite" in order to grow their relationship from squabbling to a more "social" interaction.

You can read the full story and gain the full smile from here.. < http://missionrhino.za.org/2010/06/honeymoon-suite-to-boost-nepal-rhinos-love-life/ >

Hope this post helps in amongst the violence.

Some Research

Through some searching I have found this site < http://www.rhinoconservation.org > which is helping me understand a lot more about the situation going on between the poachers, rhinos and consumers of the horn.

A more specific address is < http://www.rhinoconservation.org/2011/01/21/another-south-african-veterinarian-charged-with-rhino-horn-crimes/ > which is a very interesting post to find out who the consumers are and what prices they are paying etc.
Disgusting sight of a dead de-horned rhino
being examined by a park ranger.
"Although rhino poachers are said to earn as much as R25,000 per kilogram... In Vietnam, rhino horn could easily command USD $40, 000 per kilogram. The price climbs even higher in China, to around USD $60, 000 per kilogram."

Another interesting thing spotted on this page was that with so many Chinese people immigrating to South Africa,  the demand has increased even further both as traditional medicine and for weaponry purposes in making dagger handles.
